The speculation surrounding the recent awards show was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team could be designing a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, letting players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
